Do you test for heavy metals?Updated 2 years ago

We are well aware of the health concerns about heavy metals in plant-based ingredients but feel we need to clear up some common misconceptions.

First, heavy metals are found in everything grown in the soil. These metals naturally exist in the earth's crust, in the air, and in the water.  Heavy metals are unavoidable, but we go above and beyond industry standards to minimize heavy metals in our products.

As part of our quality control and testing process, we perform a thorough analysis of all raw materials for heavy metals. If an ingredient doesn't pass this first qualifying step for purity, it never makes it into our products.

Once all approved and tested ingredients have been verified we begin the blending process at our FDA-registered facility using pharmaceutical-grade equipment that is certified to the highest level of quality standards to ensure no heavy metals are added throughout the manufacturing process.

Before finished products are approved for sale, we perform additional in-house and third-party testing to ensure that finished products are well within the federal guidelines for heavy metals.

California has introduced a law known as Prop-65 that require a warning label to be placed on any product that contains trace amounts of heavy metals of 0.5 micrograms per day, an amount that is 150 times lower than the federal guidelines.

A good frame of reference is to consider the trace amount of heavy metals in our products in the same way that you would as eating a salad or a bowl of spinach. The earth’s crust contains trace amounts of arsenic and lead naturally and purposefully.

Also, some of the heavy metals are necessary for humans (e.g., copper, zinc). The gentle drying and minimal processing methods we use in combination with a higher standard for sourcing superior quality ingredients ensures that our products are second-to-none in terms of quality, efficacy, and sustainability.
